So you won the Guitar Hero contest at your local GameStop? Oh, and what’s that? You can flawlessly execute Through the Fire and Flames? On expert difficulty, no less — wow.
Prepare for bubble-burstage.
Your skills are jack squat compared to Herman Li from the actual band — DragonForce. This inhuman freak shreds faster than a Cuisinart.
(Don’t miss the close-up insets at 3:22.)
I have officially begun growing my hair out.
A guest-post courtesy of my buddy Rob, who has been a Mac guy since birth:
The Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser. So special. Engineered in Germany and hopefully not assembled in Mexico like the VWs.
You may ask, why is this eraser so special? Legend says, and the internet says, this eraser may be used to remove the brown stains on a white MacBook’s wrist area with just a few quick flicks of the wrist with the Staedtler in hand. Are your hands excessively sweaty? Save that debate for another day because it makes no difference to the Staedtler. Do some gardening, then some computing. Staedtler eats it up. Watch out for eraser offspring though. They could easily take refuge in your MacBook through the spaces under your keyboard or other various holes.
It bugs me when people say “in lieu of” where they really mean “in light of”. The former means “instead of”. This makes for some really bizarre phrases. Here’s an example:
…particularly in lieu of your recent citizenship…
Seems like a cursory analysis of the newyorktimes.com web server would show a high correlation between GET requests for index.html and a whole bunch of images, etc.
If every request for index.html strongly predicts a request for foo.jpg, why not just send them both together?
Or do they already do this?
I’ve officially started CrossFit. So far so good. I’ve been in “big box” style gyms for probably 10 years now, and I’m bored. I’m excited to see if I can make some new progress.
(I’m hedging my bets tho. I’m still paying for the Gold’s membership, just in case.)
So far the most difficult part has been surrendering control. I used to walk into the gym with a carefully-devised plan. Now I walk in with a bizarre hybrid of excitement and nervous anticipation. I never know what these crazy bastards are going to make me do.
Oh and, by the way: I want a damn muscle-up so bad I can taste it.
Next time you accidentally close a Firefox tab, whip yourself out a ctrl-shift-T.
Undo close tab. Awesome.
There’s been some talk lately about GUI focus-stealing:
I have definitely been bitten by the focus-stealing pop up. Once I unintentionally rebooted my PC (during the early days of Windows Automatic Updates). I was mad as hell. Another time I accidentally typed part of my password into an instant-message window and sent it. GRR.
I think the Firefox team has done great work in this area, and I’m surprised nobody has mentioned it so far. Here’s a screen shot:
See the install button? There is a “3…2…1″ countdown before it gets focus. Brilliant.
Please people, I implore you: steal this idea.
