Normally I handle my own taxes with Turbo Tax Online (which works great under Linux). This year, due to a marriage, home purchase, two company-subsidized relocations, a stock sale and an options exercise and sale, I decided to seek professional help. I will not be doing this again.
I’m being charged $525 for tax preparation. The person who did the work isn’t even a CPA.
The tax preparer even had the nerve to suggest that she had “saved” me money by finding out from me what my cost basis was for the stock sale. Apparently if you don’t know your cost basis, then Uncle Sam can assume you got it for free and tax you accordingly. Umm, yeah lady, I wouldn’t have made that mistake you dumbass.
For dinner tonight I grilled some steaks. I had turned off the grill, and I was just about to go inside when I realized that there was a grease fire in the grill. Initially I hoped it might burn itself out. No such luck. I finally shot the thing with a fire extinguisher. At least I got the steaks off first.
Anyone know how to decontaminate my grill?
I jammed out on Clapton’s “Old Love” tonight. For almost 4 hours. My fingers freaking hurt.
The verse is only four, fairly easy, chords (Am, Dm7, Gsus4, G) . However, if you know the pentatonic scale you can invent all kinds of cool transitions and fills between them. Loads of fun.
I rewatched WarGames tonight. I’ve loved that movie since I was 10 years old and saw it on laser disc. Its at least partially responsible for my interest in computers. A few years later I was using ToneLoc to scan entire exchanges in Southern Rhode Island and Connecticut. I found some really bizzare stuff.

“wget –mirror” is officially my favorite method of “leeching”. It even works on ftp sites.
I’m saddened to hear that Mitch Hedberg has died at age 37. I had the chance to see Mitch at the Captiol City Comedy Club in Austin, and he was great. We’ll miss you Mitch.
Comedian and Actor Mitch Hedberg, 37, Dies
Yea that’s right, I just finally got a blog. Am I embaressed that it took me so long? Am I ashamed that countless grandmothers joined the “blogosphere” before me.
Yes.
But this is a recurring pattern with me. Better late than never I guess. Apparently “mark++” is the body of a very slow loop.
