Delta’s in-flight entertainment system runs Linux. Notice Tux below?
I was lucky enough to witness a couple of reboots on a flight from Atlanta. The boot spew also indicates that they use an AMD Geode processor.

I’m surprised they use a umpc for each station. Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to say run a thin client at each location and stream everything from one server?
A Geode is about as thin as you can get. The Geode, ram, flash and ethernet will likely be under 3×5″ single component side SMT 4 layer. The LCD will be a far bigger board. The boot spew would have been interesting to see MTD (Memory Technology) devices, drivers and OS version.

Hahah… We were actually still at the gate, honest! There was a technician onboard attempting to fix the system to make the 5+ hour trip tolerable. I actually witnessed two reboots, but the system never worked.
Thank god for sudoku.
